How did you decide what to run off DC vs. AC? I assume when you plug in, the AC charges your batteries? Can you switch your refrigerator (etc.) over to AC? (I’ll read those sources you recommend!)
My choice about the fridge was influenced by the non-operating one that came with the trailer, the price of a new absorption fridge, and the ease of an electric fridge. Once I had figured out the amount of solar and battery I would need for the fridge, the rest fell into place. Yes, it is powered by shore power when I'm plugged in. I have a ton of 120V stereo gear and wanted a larger TV. The >32" LED screens are not 12V friendly. I have no 12V parasitic draws from circuit boards, furnaces, thermostats, radios, water heaters, alarms, etc.
Yes, when I plug into shore power, my converter charges the batteries. That is non-essential as long as the sun shines. Solar does such a great job of charging the batteries, both on the road, and in storage. I have a few DC receptacle boxes in the walls and have used one to power fans around my cabin heater. I may use another for charging phones and stuff. The rest of the DC is for lights, the vent and stove fans, and the water pump.
