RV TOILETS
I'm running up to NYC this week, back this weekend. Then Monday, I meet a plumber and an electrician. Both have a great attitude about working on the Sky Deck. I love it when a plan comes together.
I wanted to ask you old pros about TOILETS.
I've read countless posts about this toilet or that. ("If opinions were fast trains to Texas, how we'd ride, how we'd ride, how we'd ride.") I've looked at the most widely-sold brands all the way up to a $6,000 British marine toilet (must be nice). What I'm looking for is sound advice on really basic concepts.
Here are a few parameters:
1. I will be getting a high profile, ceramic unit that flushes (okay, sprays water around the bowl!) like a champ, or worst-case scenario, has a hand wand that picks up the slack for lack thereof.
2. I do NOT want an adventure learning new feces-related ways of life. I'm not interested in composting, using mere cups of water, carrying my waste across a campground in a "cassette" or spending one SECOND handling waste that I don't have to. It's all too much like my day job, which deals with politicians.
3. I would like to make dumping as event-free as possible, and I'll pay whatever I can to avoid clogs, maintenance, cleaning blades, impellers, etc. I realize that this will become a part of my life whether I like it or not, but I'm hoping if some smart pals give me really brilliant advice now, it will be minimized as much as humanly possible.
So here is what I'm thinking and wondering:
Do I want a macerator toilet? Deal with the problem immediately, and nip problems in the bud? I'm pretty sure I don't want a macerator system outside the rig (run after-the-fact on the black tank contents), because (see above), I really don't want a new routine in my life handling sewage. Isn't it a no-brainer that if possible, I'd want whatever goes into my black tank to be pureed, so as to minimize problems later on getting from there to the dump station?
Or is that just going to create a fine sludge in the black tank that would only be flushed out by the said external macerator system? And... or... is that a possible point-of-failure at the head that I am going to regret? On that last point, are there systems stout enough where I can count on the grinder to handle a little toilet paper and the like?
What other problems can I head off at the pass? I'm not Donald Trump... but if I WAS... how do I nuke the likelihood of gas coming back into the RV, minimize the use of chemicals (or hell, MAXIMIZE the use of chemicals), etc. How would you spec HIS system?
And by the way, what in the world is the deal with these slinkies? I know this must seem ignorant, but why exactly do you want RIDGES in the hose holding human waste? I mean, I guess I know the answer, but then that's a rank (pun intended) admission that these are disposable items, and not much of a solution.
Thanks in advance for any good advice.
