Small Fridge Fan?

Hello, I asked this question on some else's thread and felt like I was hijacking it.

I know I have seen input regarding a small fan to help air movement in the outside of the fridge to help move air and heat up the wall.

What king of fan do I need to use? 12 or 120v ? Computer fan?

Thanks

  • We added a 12 volt dc fan in ours and it made 10-15 degree difference in the frig temp. We are currently sitting in hot sunny conditions and for the first time, the frig was warming up during the day and then cooling some at night. We think the built in fans may have stopped working. Been a long time since we heard them turn on, but we haven't been in hot weather like this either. Ours was a computer fan.
  • I would check for proper ventilation. If not installed per refer installation instruction fix it.
Distance between outer wall and coils should be less then an inch. I fixed mine by using foam board attached to outside struct wih Liquid nails.
If in a slide, there is normally a void on top of refer. This needs to have a curved section of sheet metal to divert air into the top refer vent.
Not in a slide is little hard to do, but can be done by removing roof vent.
If you are set on installing a fan, use a 12 volt fan connected to the 12 DC refer supply wires. The small computer 12 volt fans work good.

A battery powered fan would be used inside the fridge compartment just to circulate air but for improved air flow outside the fridge one would want to use a 12 vdc powered fan.
    My bad ..I fixed it.:)

Soundguy has it covered. Was thinking inside of fridge.
  • Try a small battery operated fan inside the fresh food section first.
