So after all this I am convinced that you are all right. It seems such a waste to have to buy a Vicon when the controller has it built in.
I went ahead and picked up the new model of the EP Solar Tracer 4215BN with remote panel this afternoon.
It was pretty pricey for what I needed but they apparently no longer make the 30 AMP.
I will go ahead and hook it up like you all suggest.
