Spare tire mount on bumper, Y or N?

Coachman bumper has a note on it to not attach anything to it. Salesman told us he personally had a bumper break off when he had a bike rack on it.

Spare tire is currently mounted underneath the tongue, I hope I never need it, that won't be a fun day.

How week are the bumpers?
  • Considering how often one needs to use the spare tire, I wouldn't think it's a problem being under the tongue. If you don't keep the tires properly inflated, buy cheap tires, or run old tires then maybe it's a problem.
  • Check out https://www.mount-n-lock.com/index.php. Brackets for shoring up your bumper.
  • I would not recommend mounting the spare tire to the bumper. Those bumpers are pretty flimsy and not secured to the frame very well.
