SoundGuy,
Thanks for the warranty information on the TRC Surge Guard. Do they do the same for their autoformer?
I doubt it, neither does the Hughes Autoformer which includes a 2 yr warranty but only for those purchased within continental USA and only for "manufacturing defects", not for failure during use.

The recommendation for portable is because not all of us are comfortable opening up a device to repair it.
The downside for we Canadians is that shipping a portable back to Progressive for repair means freight costs and dealing with PITA customs whereas the hard wire versions are considered by Progressive to be field repairable by the owner. If you have an issue with a hard wire model call Progressive, describe the problem you're having, along with any error code being displayed, and they'll mail you the required replacement parts by USPS directly to your door - no fuss, no muss. Opening the box is as simple as removing 6 screws, the same process one uses to install the unit in the first place - no biggie, even for those with limited electrical knowledge. The hard wire versions also offer the ability to change the delay time from the factory preset 15" to 136" by simply removing an internal jumper in order to protect an A/C compressor motor whereas the portable unit's delay is fixed at 136".
