Unfortunately, surge protection devices often get confused with EMS units ("electrical management system") and it doesn't help that TRC calls theirs a SurgeGuard which is more than just a surge protector. A PI unit is the best one available and monitors for a wide range of potential electrical issues. Personally, I'd have no desire for a portable unit that you've gotta plug in outside every time. Ours is a hardwire version that lives under the dinette seating next to the converter/panel - it's always there protecting our back. :)

The downside for we Canadians is that shipping a portable back to Progressive for repair means freight costs and dealing with PITA customs whereas the hard wire versions are considered by Progressive to be field repairable by the owner.
We have a local shipping depot in Canada that now ships stuff via USPS and they drive it across the border once a week. Waay cheaper than Canada Post and often cheaper than courier. I've shipped tons of stuff off ebay into the US and have found that sending via courier from Canada does not cost more than shipping out of the US and there's just no advantage taking something into the US for shipping. Taking stuff into the US for shipping doesn't have to involve a broker. I once took a crate full of rare & valuable engine parts across the border to send to a engine builder and Canada or US Customs had no interest in what I had or it's value and same when I brought it back home (all they wanted was an invoice showing my cost for the assembly work). Getting things shipped into Canada is a whole different matter that can be full of problems & costs. Regardless, it's not like these things (PI at least) fail very often. They are dam_ cheap insurance and every Rv-er should have one.
