Personally, I'd have no desire for a portable unit that you've gotta plug in outside every time. Ours is a hardwire version that lives under the dinette seating next to the converter/panel - it's always there protecting our back. :) .

Along with the portable's monitor display which is integrated into the main box. :(
The Progressive hard wire version includes a remote display one can place anywhere within 16' of the main unit which one can hide anywhere convenient. The only issue I've had with mine, which wouldn't be uncommon, is that over time the contactor inside can hum, enough that's it's audible. This wouldn't be an issue for those installing one in an outside compartment but mine is inside the camper itself, under the sofa, and I could sometimes hear it. The problem is that Progressive has bolted the contactor directly to the case so when it vibrates, even a little, that vibration is induced into the case and amplified. I solved this entirely by mounting the guts of my EMS in a larger
plastic tool box (15 pics) so I could "float" the contactor and not have it touch the box at all. Seems to have worked as my EMS-HW30C is now dead silent in operation. :B
