look at the watts
120 volts X 10 amps = 1200 watts
110 volts X 10.9 amps = 1200 watts
100 volts X 12 amps = 1200 watts
So by using a different "tap" you can boost the voltage from what comes in to what you need.
The different tap causes more amps to be drawn.
I'm at my brother cottage which exhibits 118 volts with no load--but the roof air drops it down to 104.
That causes the autoformer to do a booost to about 108.
Low voltage can be from too long a wire run, and again an autoformer can fix that.
