Found this on morning after a weekend outing. By the afternoon problem was resolved. C.B.

Nice looking fix.
I don't have the issue because of the style of the holder, the roll is always against the wall:
I did have a similar issue with a paper towel holder, now we use a clothespin to clamp the loose end to the roll (pin on the side, just poke a finger 1/2" back to make room).
