Upgrading Handle
I'm wanting to upgrade from the small factory handle on my entry way to a large D-shaped folding handle. How do you know where it's safe to install something that you need to be tied to the framework...

If you already have the small handle, it's screwed into the frame. just measure from the edge of the door the the center of the "screw covers" on the handle. When you decide where you want the new mounting hardware use those measurements and drill your new holes.
That's what I did for both of the handles I added to our trailer 3 years ago and have no problems. Just shoot sealant in the holes, add some to the screw threads and install. It worked for me.
