Video: Upgrade Your RV Shower

Many who have installed an Oxygenics shower head in their RV rave about the difference in water pressure (especially while on the water pump), while at the same time using less water -- something especially important while boondocking, or with a limited grey water capacity. We decided to check out the difference for ourselves, and share the results in today's video on Grand Adventure:

And FYI we have no association whatsoever with Oxygenics -- we weren't provided a test unit, we went out and bought it ourselves. But we're now a huge fan.

we used one for several years but as I got older and older my skin got so it was taking a heck of a beating, so we went to a rain shower head. I'm not pinned to the shower wall any more.

Ok, I'll admit that visual made me chuckle. ;) While I'm not shilling for Oxygenics by any means, realize that they do have other models with selectable spray patterns. I'm cheap, so I opted for the base model.
  • ok so people here are fanboys of this shower head.

    but WHY?

    what good is it?

why is it better than a lower priced unit?

what are the bad about it? aka why do you not like it?

what is it and how does it work?

    .
  • Those are the questions that the video is intended to address. However, the short of it is that you get a much more forceful jet of water and use less water per minute at the same time.
  • Take a garden hose and let water run out of the end without a nozzle, now put your thumb over part of the end. That is what they do to make the showerhead use less water but have a nice blast coming out of each hole.
  • Just a guess that Old Guy probably uses shore water at full pressure. My old water pump, 2.3 GPM, was a non-performer with the standard shower head, but was very tolerable with the Oxygenics. Because it worked so well for us, when I replaced the water pump, I selected another miserly model. We can go a long ways with that shower head and a 50 gallon fresh water tank.
  • IMHO the water pressure increase isn’t noticeable. Felt close to my old shower head. Perhaps I had a pretty good one before the switch. We also dry camp a lot so we can’t compare the two with a city water hookup.

It does save water. That’s always a plus for many reasons, especially for dry campers.

Or perhaps I had a really crappy one. LOL

"Upgrade" is a matter of personal opinion. I installed an Oxygenics in our own trailer but my wife didn't care for it at all so I reinstalled the original, stock shower head and sold the Oxy.

Same here. The OEM shower head had the little rubber nozzles on it and had a nice soft flow of water, but the rubber tips were all bad, and reading so much about the Oxygenics, I bought the RV one (with the cut off that goes on the valves), and tried it and didn't like it at all. The extremely long "handle" put the head of it up at the ceiling and made it awkward to handle, and I just plain didn't like the spray pattern. Removed it and it sits in the junk box of extra RV parts (I left the head mount installed as the old one was broke) and I found and ordered a shower head by Delta identical to the original (made by a company Delta bought out).
