We finally recovered our dinette cushions

This had been on our list for a while now. This was my wife's first real sewing project and it turned out pretty good. They're not perfect, but MUCH better than what we had (or I could ever do).

Here's her video if you're interested in checking out how they turned out:

Now that the cushions look nice I better put the finishing touches on the dinette before she kills me.
  • I cheated with ours. I notched the corners of the fabric, sewed down the corner and the stapled them to thin plywood. It was much easier doing that so I could be certain that I could keep the fabric wrinkle free.

Thanks! It may have turned out perfectly, but we certainly learned a thing or two.

Zippers are brutal! I think velcro is in our future for the next project for sure. Thanks for the tip.

We did the dinette coushions in our truck camper. We upgraded the material and went to a firmer and thicker foam. $600 and that was far lower than some of the other quotes. So if your wife beat that, you got a good deal.

We reused the foam and zippers and she picked up the fabric for 50% off, so we didn't spend much on these cushions. We have about $60 into them.
  • Very good job indeed! I hope you enjoyed the process as well as the product. My late parents used to enjoy projects like that. Dad did all the cutting and pinning, Mom did all the sewing. They reaphulstered and made the curtains for a couple of TTs and a couple of boat cabins for me. I learned two tricks from them that have served me well. One is to leave a little extra material in the cutting and trim after the sewing. The second, mom hated zippers and used Velcro instead. For whatever it's worth...... You did a great job.
