Actually in Canada, square head, also known as Robertson Head screws are probably the most common, especially when working with wood products. Phillips or 'X' head are also common, slot screws are losing popularity, probably because of the lack of gripping power between the screw and screwdriver.
Go to your local hardware store (Home Hardware, Home Depot, Canadian Tire etc.) and at least get a multipurpose screw driver, many styles are available. They contain all the different head style and different sizes you need. I keep one handy in the kitchen utility drawer in the MH, handy to tighten up loose hinge screws etc.
Get one with the longest handle possible, for reaching up behind the valances. You will also need it to put on the new curtain hardware.
Another option would be to watch the Canadian Tire flyer, every month or two they have sales and you can a complete set for 50-80% off, same goes for other tool sets.
