110 PSI Air While on the Road

Thinking about upgrading from 80 PSI E-rated tires to 110 PSI G-rated tires.

I assume 110 PSI air is available at most Love, Pilot-type truck stops?

Anybody use a portable air compressor? If so, what make/model?
  • And the psi should be set based on the axle weight and load inflation tables.
  • I carry a cheapo Harbor Freight pancake compressor.
I plan to use it only if necessary.
Usually I stop at a tire store and have them check the air pressure in the tires every couple of weeks when I am on the road. Slip the guy $5.00 for his trouble and good to go. I have used the air hose at a couple of truck stops and always found the pressure adequate. The coin operated ones are not good for me as the volume is to low. Prefer a tire shop BIG "O" is great about doing this

Just because the "tougher" tires you are buying allow for pressures up to 110 lbs does NOT mean that you should put that much in them.

In fact, you probably should NOT DO THAT and use close to the original recommended pressures if the load has not changed.

I personally think that getting good name brand tires is more important that putting on ones that are WAY over-rated for your application.
  • Most places have 110 + psi air.
I got this compressor on Amazon:
    PORTER-CABLE CMB15 150 PSI 1.5 Gallon Oil-Free Fully Shrouded Compressor
It is light and works great.
