well looks like my wife might get to have her chemo tomorrow. blood work has been to low. when done we want to get on road to Oregon. checking temps up hwy 5. it looks to be real hot.have 2015 Ram 3500, pulling 11,500. should it be Ok going up to Eugene and then over to coast.Stockton to Bandon, Oregonwould like to stop somewhere, but way to hotHow is 299 west from Redding to 101

Right now, if I was going from Stockton to the central Oregon coast, and with the heat wave, I would take hwy 20 over to 101 and get to the coast where the temps will be much cooler.

299 is a tough road, but with your setup you'll be OK. I had a real problem 17 years ago with my '99 Ford V10 and a 14,000 lb 5ver. Couldn't get up on the torque curve and barely climbed up in first and floored. I presume your truck is diesel and you'll be fine. I lost momentum in the switch backs and just couldn't get going again.

20 is a piece of cake compared to 299. Both are nice routes for us. I think 20 to 101 up to Arcata would be quicker than I-5 to Redding then west.

Drove from Angels Camp through Stockton and on to Vancouver, WA on Saturday. Temps were high 80s to low 90s all the way. Glad we missed the heat wave. In the low to mid 80's in Vancouver today so relief is on the way. I've never done 114 before and don't want to.Best wishes to your wife.

Spent last week in Winchester Bay with temps in the low 70s. Got home Sunday just in time for the start of the heat. Wish I was back on the coast.

Hwy 20 to 101 is my first choice, easy road and RV friendly and much cooler temp. Hwy. 299 out of Redding is not a bad road but has some winding curves and climbs and more traffic. Check with Cal. trans to check for road contions and construction.
