There is a difference in 4 wheel and 6 wheel Brake Controllers. You may not have full voltage with your stock controller. You can check with voltmeter at trailer female plug on TV. As stated above, brake adjustment is also important, but you should never lock the trailer brakes on hard braking. Wiring is also important, but make sure your start with the right Brake Controller.
