As stated above, brake adjustment is also important, but you should never lock the trailer brakes on hard braking. Wiring is also important, but make sure your start with the right Brake Controller.
The OP has a F450. I can guarantee the controller is rated for a 6 wheel trailer. That truck was built to tow.
