Congrats. I have a 2013 3500 drw. Has been a trouble free truck and have been very happy with it. A buddy has a 2013 2500 and just traded for a 2017 srw 3500. He said the difference in the overall truck is awesome.....quiet, smooth and powerful. I will be getting a 2018 next year.

I agree the GMC are a real nice tuck, we almost bought the GMC Denali instead of the of the Chevy last week. The rebate on the Chevy was a little more so we fell in that camp. We had a 2008 Dodge Ram with a 6.7 CTD and it was a very good truck. We broke down for 2 weeks in the UP of Michigan while camping with emission system and exhaust filter problems it quit doing re-gens altogether. When the $$$$ started adding up for the fix we chose to trade the truck on a new 2017 Chevy 3500. So far we have only pulled maybe 1K miles and we love the new one. I will say I can't notice a whole lot of puling power difference between the old Ram and new Chevy topping hills. The empty ride of the new truck is far better then the old.

The one minor thing I did to the Chevy was add a grill insert from etrailer. Not sure if the GMC has the same issue or not. I had a friend point out the cooling system was exposed to road debris. If you look closely at the first pic below in the center between the fog lights right below the Chevy emblem it has a slit with nothing in there to protect the cooling system from road rocks and debris.

It took my helper (DW) and I about 1.5 hours to install the guard. We had to pull the whole grill out to get our hands down into the bolts to install it. When I was a younger man it would have been a piece of cake. We just did it today and we got the job done but we both had some fowl words flying around for a while. Once we were done we came in the house and had a drink and laughed about it.

Now we have caught a slight bug for a new 5th wheel. Trying to suppress the bug but....

I have had my 2017 GMC 3500 DRW Diesel Denali for 1 week, and just towed my 5ver for the first time....WOW what a huge difference from my 2008 GMC 2500 Diesel, which was a great truck with no issues. It was like the trailer wasn't even there...we notice how smooth the ride was, and how much less the truck bounced around from the weight of the trailer.

WE won't even mention all the bells & Whistles this truck has that my old one didn't. However, there are a few downers....the 2017 only has a 36 Gal fuel tank, as my 2008 had a 52 Gal tank (I replaced the OEM tank)...this truck is also harder to fit into my garage as my old truck was a short bed, SRW....but I can live with backing in very slowly. Lastly, DRW trucks don't come with internal tire temp/psi sensors.

We hope to have this truck for a very long time!

To Splashers3 my dually comes with TPMS and I believe new Fords do also. Now I haven't had my truck very long but I don't think it comes with temperatures readings though.

Slowing down and stopping with that rig is fun too. I have a 2500 HD towing an Arctic Fox 5th and slowing down with the exhaust brake and the Allison is like throwing out an anchor! Going down a 6% grade is easy peasey!

The 3500 only shows tire pressure if to go to that screen on the EVIC, no alarm or temp. Chris

I don't understand it when people say, "didn't even notice the trailer." I've towed literally 100s of thousands of miles in dozens of trucks with every kind of trailer and if I have a trailer I notice it. Even a 2000lb cargo trailer you can feel with a 600hp truck. Or at least you should be able to feel it or something is wrong.

About the truck, a good friend bought a new 3500 high country the other day. It is an amazing truck. Pulls really, really hard for being stock. Congratulations on a nice rig.

Very true...

It's all about the difference. When you look at jumping ahead 2 generations of duramax there is a big difference in frame, noise, Allison, exhaust brake and most of all power. I completely understand what the op is saying. It is going from a truck towing close to limits to far under limits. The trailer is still noticed compared to empty - but not there compared to the old truck.
