Not if but when!
We have been towing various configurations of travel trailers and fifth wheels for a long time coupled with different trucks and large SUV's.
We have had one blow out in that time until Sunday. Coming home from North Georgia we lost the first passenger side tire on the 5ER outside of Macon. A short time later the second tire blew on the same side just north of Valdosta.
#2, you can be prepared as best as you can (tires checked and at 80 psi) and less than two years old and it can/will happen.
The tires are Goodyear Marathon ST 235/80 R 16 E .
There is extensive damage to the wheel well area, landing gear and under carriage from the tire(s) exploding. I'm not brand bashing....
:S
Sorry to read about your "Marathon Experience"..:(
Unfortunate with your towing background you hadn't "caught up with" the Marathon & ST "saga" - before they caught up with you!..:(
#2 best *preparation* = Just say "NO" - ASAP to GY Marathons!
No more "if but when" hanging over your head.
Plenty of justifiable GY Marathon "brand bashers", who have shared your experience.
Search *any* RV forums on/for ST tires and GY Marathons!
Lots of tales of woe..:(
Save the GY tire carcasses, as usually GY will pay for the damage due to their tires - unfortunately no help for your down time, inconvenience - and ruined trip.
BTW - avoid the GY G614. Some research will yield better G rated choices available. (as in the previous post).
Wishing you better results when you get your new "shoes"..;)
