The convertor being bad would only effect the 12volt side. With your cord pluged into the pedestal use a meter or test light and see if you have 110v in your breaker box. If not I'm betting you have a bad plug on the end of your cord that needs replaced. Over time they corrode and get hot and a wire connection may be bad.
