- bpoundsNomadMine is an '06. I average about 10mpg and we spend a lot of time in big California mountains.
Love my 6.0.
I would recommend you buy something else. The fact that you asked this question leads me to believe you are inexperienced with diesels in general, and the 6.0 is not beginner friendly. - waltbennettExplorer

BTW, you could ask what our favorite color of the 6.0 PSD was, and the thread would still end up like this.:)
And for a justifiable reason.
Not in my case. Glad I didn't lose any sleep from the conclusionists' posts.
Well they are not ALL bad, but the percentage is way above the norm. Part of reason for this forum is to warn newbies of some pit falls. The Ford 6.0 is one of those issues that requires fair warning.
I think it would be a great disservice to a new member to not at least make them aware that this engine has less than a stellar history.
True, but after finding out the real reason it's had that history (it's really a school bus engine & not intended to have an EGR or oil cooler, so IH didn't clean out the blocks sent to Ford, and they didn't either), adding a coolant filter, I've had no problems with mine at all. - waltbennettExplorer

2006 F350 Dually, 6.0 powerstroke, 5 speed auto, 4WD, 4.10 gears, pulling 33' gooseneck horse hauler, 12K to 14K pounds...... 10mpg.
Same TV, Montana 3665RE and I get 11 to 12.5, 13 to 15.5k. Haven't been above about 5k feet though. - gmw_photosExplorer

If mileage is really a big concern maybe a Honda and staying at a motel could be a better choice. Almost all trucks will get between 6 and 11 maybe 12 mpg tops when towing. It won't matter whether it's gas or diesel. That's what they get. Towing for a couple hundred miles the difference in fuel cost from the best to the worst really isn't much. JMHO.

Pretty much ! I get the same ( 10 to 12 ) out of my 4.0 gas Frontier pulling my 19' Funfinder or the small horse trailer. - Camper_2012Explorer

Same goes for a modern 80,000 lb Peterbuilt or Freightliner; 9-11 mpg.

10 mpg omg
I just got rid of one; 10 mpg towing. After $8K in the last 18 months I gave up the fight. If you have the option I'd go with the 6.7. We got a '14 F250 and there's no comparison towing. - rhagfoExplorer III

Looking to Buy or already own??
Have you researched the engine reliability? - fla-gypsyExplorerMany of the 6 L PSD's had problems and many didn't. Make an informed decision based on the actual vehicle you are considering.
