2007 chevy vs 9500lb 5th wheel

Get your flame throwers ready.

31 ttrailer got hammered by hail and strong winds by a tornado that came by and i took it in to the shop. They said 13,000 dollars in damages (what a racket) and except for all the dents the awning is really destroyed with hail holes( 1700.000 to replace. insurance is going to total the camper and i looked at upscaling to a nice 5th wheel.

problem is truck is capable of 10,000 lbs and camper is 9500.

does anyone else pull this close to the limit.
  • i have 4:10 gear, when i ordered this truck in 2007 i went from 3:43 gears to 4:10. as a daily driver it sucks...gas and you can hear it wind down from 75 mph when you let of the gas.

i only use it to tow got 69,000 miles on it now, almost new
  • With 9500 tow limit, my guess is that you have a 6.0 gasser with 3:73 axle. If this is the case I would keep gvwr of trailer under 10k and you should be good. The limiting factor is axle ratio which will work the drive train on Hills and headwinds.
  • I have a 2003 2500HD 6.0 crew cab 4x4 towing a 2014 Rockwood 8281WS. Dry weight on it is just over 8,000 lbs. I haven't weighed it loaded but I'm sure we are pushing 9,000 lbs loaded.
  • Yes few hills, branson and roaring river in the ozarks are foot hills that i would have to travel for just a little bit.

plan on getting new truck next year, diesel.
