2010 Montana 5th wheel frame problems

I purchased a 2010 Montana 3400RL new. I have towed it less than 3000 miles. I have experianced many major problems with it since I purchased it. Now I found that the frame has a major problem. The wall on the side of the front closet has been broken by the movement of the frame. I would like to know how many others have had this problem.
  • Don't put all the blame on Keystone - Lippert is hiding under the table......
  • This is a serious engineering design error on the part of Keystone. On my unit there is movement in the frame in the transition from the lower main body and the above pickup bed part. The caulk seal has been broken on the trim by the propane tanks. That means the whole front frame flexes and I have towed it less than 3000 miles since new. This is serious. when GM had ignition problems the government made them issue a recall. This is way more serious than that!
  • We have a 2010 SOB and had the same problem. We took it back to the factory last spring and the front cap was removed, bedroom slide removed, etc. and "more metal" was installed by Lippert. Since then, we haven't had a problem. Contact Keystone and hopefully they'll step up and help make things right.

  • This or similar is probably what you will find when you drop the overhang cover )one around pin box).........look at the screws that hold trim on, probably broken or pulled loose

Just do a goggle search RV Pin Box Failure and then click on Images.
    LOTS and Lots of pix

You're likely to have to un-skin the entire nose section to find out the cause, which is most likely a broken, or breaking, area around the pin box. Poor design, too light materials used and, most common, just plain crappy construction by Lippert, are the biggest contributors. Add in poor QC at the factory not spotting this poor construction and fixing it before the build even starts, and you've got a breakdown just waiting to happen. Do a search here on broken frames and you'll see some nasty pics an read even more horror stories.

  • The side panel on mine came apart also. All the shelving come down and made quite a mess. I had to add a re-enforcement piece and install extra screws for adequate strength. It really is poorly engineered.
