OK, I will clarify my statement. I did say on our long bed dually. The hitch is centered over the axle, so all the weight is on the rear axle (no lever action here) Reese 20K hitch using Reese Custom no drill mounting brackets, if it was forward of the rear axle, yes some weight would be transferred to the front, if behind the axle as in TTs you remove weight from the front axle, thus the reason for a Weight Distributing hitch, to put some of that weight back. I have the weight slips showing the increased rear axle load with the 5er, but it also shows no increase in the front axle.
If you full time, you will be surprised how much stuff you carry. I can guarantee that we're carrying probably a little more than 3K with full wardrobe of clothes for two (have to be prepared for all weather conditions), food to go a week or more without going to the store, portable fully stocked freezer in the basement, plus all the pots, pans, dishes, etc. that one would have in a small apartment.
