For Ram I would go with the B&W turnover ball and companion hitch. I don't have it yet, but I have seen it in use, very nice system and the bed is completely free when you remove the companion...
That was certainly an option on my 2014 Ram shortbed, but I went with the reese picture frame , and kept my reese manual slider . IMO if I was starting from scratch I would still go the picture frame adapter , and the Pullrite Superglide ISR series 2700, or 2900 , less money then B&W for the 2700 , and about the same for the 2900 if you include the price of the picture frame with the hitch. Both of the hitches are actually cheaper then the B&W Companion manual slider. No one argues the quality of Pullrite, and the OP would not have to mess with a manual slider which is a PITA. Kind of a no brainer going the automatic.
To the OP having the same truck, my big concern was fifth wheel clearance ,most of the newer fifth wheels have the rounded corner on the front , and usually have no problems, never had an issue with my previous ford shortbed, but having a bed 6 inches shorter then ford I thought there could be an issue, but after a short trip with the fifth wheel ( 2008 Montana ) I see no problems. I will always have a slider with a shortbed , never know when it will be needed. If you have the factory fifth wheel prep IMO the ISR series Superglide , and picture frame adapter is the only way to go ,automatic slider with no clearance worries, regardless of fifth wheel or pin box.
