I don't follow what you're saying about the picture frame adapter...The picture frame adapter offered by Reese, as well as MOPAR mounts in the 4 holes that are provided by the 5er/GN prep package...and that is specifically to mount a 5th wheel hitch to. My picture frame adapter mounts into 4 lock down holes in bed of truck, built into the frame, My 5er hitch mounts to the picture frame adapter, (picture frame adapter is what MOPAR calls it, a picture of it, though made by Reese, was offered by another poster on this thread.
Ooooops... my mistake, you're right. My RAM doesn't have the 5th/GN prep, so it doesn't have the four prep holes in the bed. If you look up under my truck bed, where the prep would be for the gooseneck is a thick metal plate welded to and spanning the frame rails. It has a large hole in the center and four smaller holes around the center hole. I thought this is what was being called the picture frame adapter.
When I was researching hitches for the truck, I didn't want a gooseneck adapter type hitch and Curt was the only manufacturer who offered a "no drill" kit that provides standard wide rails. Reese was working on one, but it had not made it to market yet. More options now.
