2016/2017 Montana Insulation & A/C Question

We have stayed in some pretty hot weather and the single pane windows are not designed to keep heat out and cool in. I am measuring our windows for MagneShades this weekend in anticipation for some hot weather camping. Air conditioners move the air around around just fine - but it is tough to beat 105+ temps we have camped in Chico, Laughlin, and Las Vegas.

When I had my Big Country, I read some article on where the air was going and that led me to drop everything I could and tape corners and cracks and even try to make foils to let the air flow more freely. I didn't have an air flow meter but just the greater feeling of air flow told me where the improvements helped.
Now with the whisper quiet returns there's less chance of getting in there and making changes.
Inspect and clean up what you can. Find creative solutions as some others have mentioned.
I feel lucky I guess that our new toy hauler has great ac flow, as long as I shut off vents to the garage.

We have a 2008 Montana 3485SA with one AC in the rear. The bedroom was not getting much air. At one point out of desperation I removed the bedroom vent and stuffed a pool noodle forward of the vent. My take is that the ducting is open at the front and maybe in all directions. After that there was much more air in the bedroom. That fix won't help a lot but I feel is worth the try.

My Voltage toy hauler has three a/c's and the interior temps stay in the low 80's when we're at the lakes near Phoenix during triple digits.

For your airflow problem. Our main a/c (living room/kitchen) is a fully ducted unit. I removed the main a/c and found the metal sealing tape bound up in a ball in the plenum below the a/c. Most of my cooling air was disappearing into the ceiling and not coming out of the vents. Turns out the builder tried to stick the metal tape to saw dust. Once I cleaned out the old tape and gave the area a good vacuuming and re-tapping, there was air flowing nicely out of the vents.

One other thing I found was there was little air entering from the two ceiling intakes. Turns out the flimsy intake duct was collapsing and closing off the air flow. I put in a 1" piece of 1" PVC to hold the duct open. This and re-tapping the plenum got the air flowing real well.

Another thing I did was remove all of the vent covers and re-taped the vents for good measure.

If you are asking me what size vents we have compared to other units, I have no idea! I just gave feedback to the original poster. I think you have made several posts on the Montana owners site and I believe you have a problem. Original poster needs to go the owners website and he will have plenty of reading to do on this subject and excellent opinions from Montana owners like yourself. Our unit was built before mid-year. It may have more to do with who was on the assembly line when that unit was built. Keystone should stand behind their products and glad they have agreed to allow yours to be returned to the factory. Does your unit have the extra large returns for the A/C units? I believe that is one of the changes that started mid-year '16. Several have no complaints with those units. Others have had crushed ducting that contributed to the problem. The fact that angers me the most is that the Sandpiper I sold to my work partner's daughter was parked next to us in Myrtle Beach this past summer and that unit stayed perfectly cool while we were unable to keep the unit at 8* below ambient air. Yes, both in full sunlight all day. That unit is stark white while our unit is the new beige. So a little color variation and ours has no black on the nose, only the slide toppers. I truly miss the rapid cool of the older units. I'm one that doesn't care if it was a little more noisy. Another thing that was upsetting, was in June we went to Wisconsin and had a friend of mine with my EXACT unit sitting beside mine and his cooled great. That' part of the reason it is going back to the factory. No one can explain what is happening around here.

I realize a previous poster has a Montana with problems and hope he gets it resolved. I too suggest the Montana owners site. Very knowledgeable and nice members on there that have helped me quite a lot on the two Montanas we have owned. We purchased our 2017 3611 Montana and stayed in Memphis for a shakedown trip last summer. We did not have a problem with the unit staying cool. I think the highs were around 96 and humid. Your experience may vary!

I don't believe the insulation values from most manufacturers. The thin bubble foil wrap they use in the basement is not near the R-value they tout.

Without the second AC out well insulated Titanium would be barely livable in 100+ temps. In Arizona and Texas last Summer the second unit was a lifesaver.

Second suggestion: don't go to Arizona and West Texas in mid Summer!

I don't own a Montana but I can tell you this. Very few if any fifth wheels are going to stay cool in 100 degree temps in direct sun. I would look for something that offers 3 A/C as an option. A few of them do. Cedar Creek, Landmark and others do offer this option.
