235/80/16 tire replacement

I need to replace the tires on my Sabre with something that will actually stay round and hold air. Is there a decent ST tire out there and if not what would be the LT equivalent (235/80/16). I noticed that Duro makes a "F" rated ST tire but don't know anything about them. I also want to be sure that there is a dealer network available when on the road.
  • From info I found online, the trailer appears to have 6K axles and the spacing is a bit tight between the tires. So you should look at LT245/75R16 LRE tires as a replacement that will give better performance and service life. Looking at the map in your sig line it appears that you travel quite a bit, so you need good tires.

Measure center to center on the axles. LT235/85R16E's require at least 33"! The 245 are not as tall, and have a similar diameter to 235/80R16 tires. They are however slighly wider, so you need to check clearances carefully.

The Firestone Transforce HT is a good choice in a poly carcass tire. If you want the best, then the Michelin XPS Rib or the Bridgestone Duravis R250 both are steel ply carcass tires that will give you 6-8 years of service.

If you stay wit the 235/80R16 tires, they are all pretty much the same with maybe the exception of the Maxxis. However even the Maxxis gets a complaint from time to time. NO ONE seems to ever complain about the Ribs or R250's, and the Firestone Transforce gets good reviews.

The deal is you have a 37' Trailer that is pushing to limits of the 6K axles. If it was mine I would be putting the R250's on it as they are around 50 dollars each less than the Ribs.
  • 85 series LT tires are generally an acceptable alternative. What is your axle rating? And what is your actual axle load?
