My opinion only: It depends on your use. For example, we full time.
Our 2 wheel drive truck is never allowed off the pavement, except in campgrounds. The truck also will never be in snow.
We have never been stuck as we know how bad it is on soft surfaces.
Spin the wheels on a two wheel drive dually just once, give up, you are stuck.
We save on better gas mileage, and less maintenance on the front end.
BUT if you are EVER going off the road, get the 4X4.
