To the OP, just having the option to use it if you think you might need it makes it worthwhile to have. As a couple others have mentioned, having low range can come in handy when maneuvering into steep sites or driveways. I have used low range on a hard, dry surface while backing into a rather steep site. You can basically idle up and into position, as opposed to high revving with one foot covering the brake just in case it takes off. Much easier on the transmission as well, with less slippage of the clutches.
