Never needed a 4 x 4 when I was farming, hauling seed and feed on snowy, icy roads and in the tilled fields, but now towing a 5ver with a dually the 4 x 4 is a must. In two wheel drive on wet ground, the dually is a useless as teats on a boar pig.
