We bought a 2wd for the simple reason that if I had a 4wd I would use it. Back in the day I had a small Toyota 2wd drive pickup that was lowered Nascar style. We took it everywhere and I mean everywhere. Shopping for a truck that would be tasked with towing 14-15k lbs we figured that everywhere+4wd was a bad idea.
In the five years and 90k miles of ownership I have been stuck once and that was while towing an atv to the sand dunes in CO. I missed the parking area and stopped just at the beginning of the dunes... the stop was what got me. A quick tug line from a Pathfinder and I was out.
