I didn't 'need' to buy 4wd, and probably would never 'need' to use 4wd... But have used 4wd when exploring some back roads in BLM lands, and Nat'l Forrest Land. We're it not for the 4wd I probably would not have made some of the great scenic discoveries all around the great US West. Need? No, but wouldn't do without for the occasional buzz.
