4x4 saved me at least a couple times pulling out of a not so great campsite. Was loading my truck and trailer up with fire wood and the ground was softer than I thought.... Never would have gotten out without 4x4. We don't get much snow but do get the occasional light snow / freezing rain.... With my dually in 2wd on any slight incline it will spin all day with a little snow and ice, throw it in 4x4 and off I go. I don't use it often but when I do I'm glad I have it.
