IMHO, If you plan to get 50A service, get it from the factory. That makes sure that it's wired correctly. 30A service is single phase. 50A is supplied dual phase. Also, 50A service is 50A on each phase for a combined total of 100A. I don't see how a unit built for 30A can be easily modified for 50A.
