5ers and tailgates
I see quite a few pickups with the louvered tailgates and the notch that lets the kingpin through. Do these improve gas mileage when you aren't towing?

IMHO, it's all about convenience. Our fiver has an east-west bed and a short nose, it was a real nuisance opening and closing the stock gate while hitching and unhitching. I haven't noticed any change in fuel consumption, if there is it's too small to worry about.
