Maybe we'll just follow each other!!!
We're thinking 6 months in warm weather and 6 months in the northern states. Except for the north south move each year, we're hoping to find a couple of interesting locations within 300-500 miles of each other, so let's think about this worst case... Florida to the coast of California - 3000 miles. California to somewhere else in California - 300 miles... Running home to Florida to avoid the winter - 3000 miles... moving around in Florida just because - 300 miles... 6900 miles of "moving" almost worst case... Jeep gets 18mpg... that's about $1300 worth of fuel + extra costs - $1500 total in a year to have the Jeep with us... Can't rent a Jeep for that! That's only $125/mo when averaged out. Heck, I'd probably spend more than $1500 prepping the 5er and the Jeep for double tow. Probably be well into the second year before we'd break even on the double tow assuming no tickets!
I know - there's oil change and depreciation on the Jeep for putting all those miles on it, which is probably another $1000/yr. Gotta pay to play I guess.
We just hate to follow each other and not be in the cab together... Unlike a lot of people out there, we really do enjoy each others company, but this is only a few days a year in the overall scheme of things.
