5th Airborne Pressure

I switched out my pinbox for a 5th airborne and yesterday was the first I could try it out. Hitched up fine and added air from a bicycle pump I had. This thing only took 4-5 pumps until the 'fill to this line' was showing. I realize that rubber bladder is pretty small so there is not a lot for air. How do you guys check the pressure, seems that if I put a gauge on it, that little bit that escapes would be a lot for this.
  • I use a standard gauge and try to press it on the stem as quickly and firmly as possible losing as little air as possible. But generally I just inflate to the line and don't check the pressure.
  • I don't check the pressure, I just inflate it to the inspection notch when hooked up.
  • Testing with mine I know that roughly 30 lbs will be close to a little much. I will often air it when I am doing the pre-trip tire pressure. Then check it again when I hitch. I usually don't have to add more air.
  • Same as others have said. I fill to the fill line. If too soft raise a little higher, if too hard lower it a little below the line. I am not too worried about the pressure just worried about the ride. Just dont over fill above 120 psi. Acording to my manual.
  • I have trouble keeping air in mine, especially if I disconnect. I have to re-inflate almost daily when we are on the road. A bit of a nuisance but well worth the improved ride.

I had the same problem with mine when I first got it. I took it out and air up the bag and put it in water to try to find a leak and I still could not find it. I called reese and talked to a tech and they sent me a new bag and this one worked great. It holds air much better. It will loose air over weeks now
    instead of days.
  • I have a 5th Airborn. Don't like it. Nowhere near as nice as the Trail Air that I had on my previous trailer.

No problems with leakage. Goes a whole season & many thousands of miles without need of airing up.

Why don't I like it? It does not have anywhere near the travel distance as the rear hinged Trail Air.

Doesn't sound right, mine sit for a couple of months before I need to add any air.
  • I towed several trips with the OEM hitch. Very uncomfortable. Bought a 5th Airborne. Eliminated 80% of the hard bouncing. The TrailAir is most likely better, for more bucks.
