The fifth wheel prep package, or OEM puck system, whatever you want to call it, is actually a bargain, when ordered on a new TV. I know Ford includes the in bed plug-in also. You save the cost of hiring the hitch installation, as anyone can set the base in the pucks, and lock the cams. It is just a set-in/lock-in and done. Sure you can install your own rails yourself. I've done it in 3 different trucks...not fun.
Anyway, the pucks are IMO, the best thing to date, and is the future for best FW hitch attachment. I would not bother with adapters to use old hitch. Just sell it, give to a friend, and move forward, with direct puck attaching hitch.
