I have the same problem with my hitch sometimes. All I do is when I am ready to release hitch, I put truck in reverse, and when truck is back as far as it can go against front of hitch. I put on the parking brake, then shift into park. Then release the hitch. The reason that I do it in this sequence, is because if you just put it into park it could roll back again and it will not release.
