5th wheel length

Someone please explain the difference between the model listing and the actual length of a 5th wheel. For instance I own a Jayco 36 reqs which is a 36 foot model BUT my overall length is something like 40 feet 8 inches. Is my trailer 36 feet or 41 feet? Thanks
  • I'm just guessing but, from what I can find out, the model number is closely related to the designers sister in law's age on the date of her first divorce, if it coincides with the date of her second marriage. Or it may have something to do with how many time the designer has actually been in an RV.
  • I think it's a licensing gimmick.

We had a 32.5 Avion that actually measured 32.5' cap to cap.

Can't explain it because there is NO standard.

Model numbers use to relate to length.........now a days that can be just a model number, can be inside length, can be exterior length, can be sq. footage, can be ???? whatever mfg. decides based on marketing advice.

    My model is 32.5 UKTG
Exterior length from king pin to rear cap is 33'10" so the 32.5 could be interior length
The UKTG is 'U' shaped kitchen triple glide (3 slides)

When we are asked for length I just say 34'

That perry much covers it! :B

Just because you have a 36REQS model doesnt mean it is a 36' Model. The model number is not the length of the RV. No connection to each other. You have to look at the specs for the length.
  • Your trailer is 41ft. Sometimes (but not always) the model number may reference the interior length from back wall to bedroom headboard. Other times it may carry over the number from a previous model it replaced. My 295rsx is 35feet.
