5th wheel lengths (model# vs reality)

I see a lot of manufacturers name their models based on lengths that are much shorter than the true overall length. I can see rounding to the nearest foot but in many cases the model number will represent a length that is 3ft or more shorter than actual overall length. Why do they do this, and what are they basing the advertised (model number) length off of?

    X2

The numbers may have some general logic for size, but don't fall into the trap that they represent overall length. The only thing that represents overall length, is overall length.

  • It may be closer to the inside length then outside but the only thing the number does is tell you which model of that brand is bigger
  • From what I have read before, here and elsewhere, the numbers on campers are only manufacturers symbols and do not relate to anything in the real world. Very few, in my experience, reflect the actual length, though often the letters will represent a configuration. RL= real living, BH = Bunk House, etc.
