5th wheel pin box

Thanks for everyone's input, as usual great info

My pin box rated at 18k pounds has just 6 bolts. Funny thing is my 8 lug one ton truck needed new hubs up front. Pulled the wheel and brakes, and just 4 bolts, smaller than the 8 lugs, hold the entire front hub on the truck. I am sure engineers smarter than myself calculated that out but still seems a little funny tho

It's just a simple bolt on job. But...

Use new bolts. Make sure they are torqued to the manufacturers spec, if provided, or google for the value based on the fastener grade and size. Your umbilical cord probably comes out through, or clamped to, your pin box. Be careful with that. And your emergency brake switch is probably attached to the pin box. Make sure you get that setup on the new box.

I swapped our a 30" extended pin box for a zero extended pin box on a long bed truck some years ago.
I lowered the landing gear so the pin box laid on cribbing.... and simply drove out from under the trailer.
Reversed the process for the new pin box. I did have to drill holes in the new pin box to match the holes in the trailers frame/flange.

That trailer had eight 1/2-13 X grade 5 bolts.

My current trailer is much heavier and has 5/8-11 bolts.

My original Lippert 1670 Pinbox only had 4 Bolts per side for my 14K lbs Fiver.
I suppose that was the 15K Lbs. version. Recently substituted their 1670 Pinbox rated to 22K Lbs, it has 5 bolts per side.

Probably depends on the size of the bolts. Our pin box defiantly has 4 bolts; 2 on each side.

Even easy by your self. No jack needed. When I installed my 5th Airborne pin box, I just backed the truck to where the tailgate was under the OEM pin box, lowered the trailer until the pin box was just barely above the tailgate, pulled the bolts, and lowered the pin box to the tailgate.
Raised the trailer, pulled the old pin box out, set the new one in place, lowered the trailer and the pin box frame onto the new pin box, inserted the bolts, and done. Used a large screwdriver to align the holes.
Mine has 8 bolts.

+1 I replaced my factory pin box with a Mor Ryde, and it was heavy. I'd suggest 2 holding it, and 1 person doing bolts. Mine only had 4, but I put an extra 2 in there for good measure.
