I tow and back up a bumper pull equipment trailer several times a day. Backing up my 5er is a PITA.
I towed a TT for 15 years. When. Switched to a 5er, it was defiantly more difficult. But that's because it's different. Now after towing the 5er for six years, I'm very use to backing it. I would still say the TT is a little easier, because of the quicker reaction.
But I wouldn't go back to a TT. The towing down the road, and the hitching and unhitching are way better on the 5er. I've read people say a "properly set" TT will tow just as good as a 5er. In my opinion, this is totally wrong. The geometry of a 5er having the pivot point over the TV axle, makes it a more stable tow. No matter how you adjust a TT hitch, or add stablizers, the geometry favors the 5er.
