I agree with you on this one, I have never liked the feel when towing a TT.  And no one needs to say that the setup must have been wrong.  Recently rode with a friend towing his much lighter TT and 3/4 ton diesel Ram.  The bucking and W/D noise was worse than my worst day towing any fiver with either 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton trucks spanning over 25 years.
With a fifth wheels weight only on the rear axle, practical payload is rear GAWR minus actual dry axle weight.
