We have been 98% dry camping since 2011-2016 when we had 4 6V Trojan AGM's installed in our TC , still lots of life when sold, and have just finished 1 year with 4 6V Interstate GC-2 (450AH),in the TT, no or little genny time averaging 90 nights/year(over 6 years). Based on research and our own real world experience, our present battery group, which cost $600 canadian, we hope to get 6 years( the average) before replacement which works out to 28 cents/day. We don't abuse our batteries but they are "rode hard and put away wet" every camping day. When you have this camping lifestyle and rely on your power storage, you come to appreciate that you have 4 6V batteries so there is little chance of being without battery power, never worrying about inverter low limit shut offs and the heavier construction and longer life of these deep cycle batteries.

I've had the following battery setups:

- 1 12v
- 2 12v
- 2 6v
- 4 6v

The two configurations that I would never use again are the one single 12v or the 2 6v.

One 12v battery isn't enough for anything.

Two 6v are good, until one of them dies or fries, which leaves you stranded with 0v. At least with four 6v, if one of them goes toes up, you still have a set of two 6v that are usable.

He said the rv was new, and dealer batteries are often the cheapest they can find. So I'm thinking it was a good choice, as opposed to wasting money.

I did that when I had 90 miles on the camper. LOL

and that was better than just getting one more 12 v battery? unless you had another use for that first battery, you wasted a bunch of money.

Lots and lots of info out there about this.
Folks that dry camp a lot, most convert over to 6V.
First 2 things I did when I brought my new RV home years ago, switched from 15" ST tires to 16" LT tires and took out the 1 12V and put in 2 6V's.
I did that when I had 90 miles on the camper. LOL
