Some years back a few of our commercial GN trailer mfg (PJ/Kaufman/Starlite..examples) came out with a 265/75-16 tire option and special 7.75 wide trailer wheels.......but after 3-4 years dropped the option. Too many warranty claims on the running gear parts caused by those wide base tires.
Why would a "wide base tire" cause warranty claims on running gear ?
If anything a wider tire uses less air pressure and floats better over bad roads.
And what trailer manufacturer would tell its customer base it had too many warranty claims ?
Keep a sharp looky on the U bolt nuts/spring keepers/wheel cracks around the lugs and cracks in the spring hangers.
You might want to have a look at the running gear under my trailer. 6 years on that too, with zero issues.
