99 34ft fifth or 04 37ft fifth how much difference in towing

We currently have a 34ft Mobile Scout by Sunnybrook 1999, I want to upgrade possibly to a 04 Mobile Suites by Doubletree 37ft. We have a 2000 Ford F350 for towing. How much harder or challenging would we find towing the 37ft over the 34ft we have? We haven't used our 34 but once on a trip from TX to Washington State in 08, long story why, but not much practice. Reason for upgrades, king bed, larger shower, more open. Also any advice on how to buy a used rv and get a good deal would be appreciated.
  • A 2000 F350 dually has a GCWR of 20,000# which is way short of what is need to tow a Mobil Suites. You will be crowding the newest F350 DRW with that trailer.

  • You really do need a Dually to tow a 36' or longer MS. Ours is a 36SB3 with 4,500# pin weight and combined is around 28K. The RV weighs in at about 19K. The truck handles the load very well. Any of the newer 350/3500 Dually trucks will do the job. I would not waste the money on a 450.

Not what I wanted to hear! I left out one thing about the 37ft trailer, it has three axles. Would that make a difference in the need for a dually?

Thanks for the information! If we were to buy a dually, would you recommend going up to a F450, and of course the other question is long bed or short bed!

    Thanks again for your input!

You might think about a PM to Cummins12V98, he tows a Mobil Suites with a 2011 Ram 3500 DRW at 27,000# GCVW.
  • The 2000 Ford F350 Crew Cab 4X4 GCWR max is 20,000lb Max vehicle so trailer must be under 12,000lb.
  • The new trucks have much more towing capability than your 2000 model. Check them out, you might not need the 450...always a long bed for a dually.

  • Welcome to the forum! First thought is too much trailer, as I believe MS's are pretty heavy. What are the weights? And I agree with donn about the drw.
  • The MSis going to be roughly double the current trailers weight, so unless your truck is a dually you will be really unhappy towing
