AC Troubleshooting

Thought I would check here for some ideas before we call the expensive, weekend, mobile rv repair guy!!!

Our thermostat is set for auto and cool. Fan comes on and air conditioner kicks in for awhile and then shuts down and kicks in for awhile. This pattern continues. It is cooling but not nearly as efficiently as it should. We shut it down.

DH is not very handy but are there some things we could try before dropping a bundle. We are in an rv park in North Fort Myers and it is a little warm.

Thanks for any ideas.
  • Can you take off the inside grille and look up inside and see if it is icing up. If so the evaporator coil is either dirty or the system is low on refrigerant
  • Sorry Scott. Where would the filter be found? Unit is on the roof. Nothing inside but round vents where the cool air comes out.
  • Make sure the filter isn't clogged with hair and dust. While you have it out look up at the cooling fins and make sure they are clean. Also make sure the sensor is still attached to the fins and not just dangling down.
You can also go up top, remove the shroud and make sure those fins are clean.
